Event Analysis

This week, the PGA Tour returns to The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland for the Genesis Scottish Open.

Robert MacIntyre looks to defend his 2024 title in his home open against a deep field that includes each of the top 5 players in the world.

After finishing 2nd behind Rory McIlroy in 2023, MacIntyre dramatically sank a 22 foot putt for birdie on the final hole to edge Adam Scott in last season’s event,  He became the first Scot to win the tournament in 25 years.

The Renaissance Club, a par 70 course, measuring 7,282 yards, features a mix of long and short holes with challenging bunkers and undulating greens.

Specifically, it has 10 Par 4s, 5 Par 3s & 3 Par 5s with a unique layout compared to most Par 70 courses on the PGA Tour.

The Par 4s:
7 of the 10 par 4s are longer than 445 yards with 5 reaching at least 480 yards with players often hitting long but bouncing the ball up the fairways is key.

Par 3s:
While some Par 3s are shorter (like the 204 yard 12th & 203 yard 17th) others are longer, requiring longer iron shots.

Par 5s:
2 of the 3 Par 5s are close to 600 yards, and the shortest is still 576 yards.

Notable Holes:
The par 3 15th, playing along the coastline, is a signature hole offering scenic views and a tough test.

Weather Impact:
Weather conditions, particularly strong wind can significantly affect play, favouring either shorter hitters with strong short game or powerful ball-strikers. Past Winners have had higher than 73% Greens in Regulation.

At the time of typing the wind is @ 15 mph @ 04:30am.

The Renaissance Club is a traditional links setup with Fescue greens and firm fairways that require intelligent decision-making & allow players to use a variety of shots on approach.

Winners have provided a simple formula in staying within fairways and taking advantage of the large greens, The Best Putters are advantaged but it will be those players that play a smart long game.

Past winners have come as far back as 8 shots on Day 2 to claim victory.

This week we have provided 7 Players with a mix of skills & the betting strategy is $1 on each Player for the Outright Win along with $1 for that same player to Top 10 and another $1 invested on the player to Top 20.

The strategy allows for safer lower risk betting in that, At the very worse case scenario if our player can only manage a Top 20 result the $1 invested will generally cover the whole outlay.

For each Player @ each event we allow $3 in total & for 7 players the suggested investment is $210 in total if you would normally invest $10 per Player.

If you would normally stake $5 the outlay for 4 days on 7 Players in ALL markets = $105.

If you would normally stake our players @ $10 per player the 4 day outlay on 7 players in ALL markets = $210.

All prices quoted for Players are via BETFAIR exchange.

💥 PLEASE NOTE: pools are still relatively small being still 24 hours before TEE off, prices can & will change, I generally will have my plays matched very well into the Late evening, I find it easier, that is me personally the night before Day 1 commences.

STAKING: At PGT, we apply a strict and consistent staking strategy to every tip we publish. All published results on our site are calculated on the basis of one (1) unit per tip, unless otherwise stated. The actual dollar value of a unit (if any) is determined by each individual — it may be for a no-value bet with a friend, or $5 or $50. This methodology is for record-keeping and educational purposes only and is not a recommendation to bet or to bet in any particular way.

Ryan Fox Win 65-1 1.00 LOSS

SKY 🚀 IN FLIGHT:

The SILVER FOX as I have named him is having his best season to date already claiming 2 x 1sts along with him being active in the Scottish Open the last 2 years running.

He finished T57 in 2024 with a passable 67, 67, 70, 70 (-6 Under Par) but in 2023 he fared much better with a T12 with a 69, 67, 67, 70 (-7) and you could easily argue that this KIWI is playing his best golf in 2025.

Better results and a Player who we know can pick up ground around the greens, FOX sits in
a High 17th SG: Total & 24th in APG along with 20th in SG PUTT, he really has improved his overall skills set in 2025.

If you compare the analysis &-stats, I sent out when he was the late mail for his 1st @ Myrtle Beach he backed it all up when 1st @ CANADA and his results since just excellent with 3 other Top 20 results.

He will TEE off in Group 34 with ROSE & POTGEITER so he can follow lines from these big T2G hitters. FOX also has rocketed up OWGR and sits in 25th, impressive.

His very calm personality should go along way this weekend when the pressure is applied on Day 3.

$1 Win will see a possible return of $65 via Betfair.

$1 Top 20 @ $3.60

Top 10 6.4-1 1.00 LOSS
Top 20 3.6-1 1.00 LOSS
Harris English Win 90-1 1.00 LOSS

ON 🔥:

As much as $120 then into $110 was on offer for English since markets opened on Tuesday in Australia.

English will be spending the next 2 weeks in the UK without regular caddie, Eric Larson who was not permitted a Visa, Larson 30 yrs ago pleaded guilty to sending cocaine to friends in the Midwest. He spent 10 years and 3 months in prison and was released from a halfway house in June 2006.

Talk about colorful, normally I would worry but ENGLISH will rely on the locals to provide a caddie which should be more beneficial with more LINKS course experience.

The past 10 winners of this event have all had above 73% GIR which my usual target is 70% so is a good fit with my criteria.

English was tipped @ The Travelers- Figures are Strokes Gained-

Top 10 8.2-1 1.00 LOSS
Top 20 4.1-1 1.00 LOSS
Thomas Detry Win 90-1 1.00 LOSS

MR CONSISTENT 💪:

Thomas actually has all the attributes and as we know he cut his teeth all over Europe in the DPWT so Links courses are not new to him.

In his last 11 events he has 9 x finishes with 7 being in the Top 35 & the other 2 in the Top 60 but what is encouraging is in those 36 rounds, 19 have been under 70.

That stat is skewed as the MEMORIAL & TRAVELERS were played much higher rounds so it possibly should be around 23 rounds under considering the Avg.

Anyway DETRY being MR CONSISTENT he brings along with him making 15 of 19 CUTS in 2025 for a strong 78% SR, this is still an event that will see CUTS after 36 holes, something to always consider.

All DETRY has to do is bring his all rounder tool bag with him, his weakness is his APG but he has really improved this stat in his last 2 of 3 ( CANADA & US Open) he was super cool and super consistent.

He has slowly been building in the background over the last few events. He is peaking but I prefer him t week than next week.

$1 Win will see a possible return of $90 via Betfair.

Another player like a few here I missed early overs @ $130 & $120. It matters if you back them with $100.

Top 10 9.6-1 1.00 LOSS
Top 20 4.8-1 1.00 LOSS
Brian Harman Win 110-1 1.00 LOSS

IN THE MIX 👍 JUST CANNOT LEAVE HIM OUT:

The LEFTY Christian.

Oddly enough it is usually 4 or 5 events before this event and of course next weeks event as he did Win with us on @ THE OPEN in 2023 that he generally fires up.

He comes into this off the back of a good result in the Travelers (8th) but prior he resulted a 3rd @ RBC Heritage won in good style by JUSTIN ROSE and 2 weeks to that event HARMAN did hold on to win @ The VALSPARS.

He thrives this time of year and the BIGGER COURSES suits this usually BIG DRIVER off the Tee, he sits in 6th overall for longest drive which will suit the rolling fairways, he will need to tidy up his driving accuracy (sits currently in the Top 50 @ 47th with 63% of Fairways hit).

When the courses get bigger he plays better, he proved on what was a very miserable weather day back in 2023 the conditions will not bother him either.

There are better players here so he is my least valued player but he has just been so good of late he cannot be left out.

$1 Win will see a possible return of $100 via Betfair.

Padraig Harrington Win 540-1 1.00 LOSS

MY ROUGHIE 🤑 🙏:

Fresh from his most recent 1st in PGA US Open (Seniors) Padraig brings a wealth of knowledge playing by the seaside in high winds.

He knows what it takes to conquer the LINKS course already winning @ The Open (next weeks event), DUNHILL Championships along with the IRISH Open just to name a few of his victories on similar courses.

Now @ 53 he is still playing strong Golf which was very evident at the US Open (Seniors) with a super consistent 4 days, 67, 67, 68 & 67 a -11 Under Par.

Where some players will struggle in the high winds I think Padraig can play relaxed & loose golf with nothing to prove, he is flying under the radar & his current DRIVING ACCURACY around 70% along with distance ( Avg 323 yards) can see him up the fairways here.

His general Greens play good with a very high 82% (GIR) at his last event when he Won, and his Putter safe as he picked up +1.81 shots per round.

$1 Win will see a possible return of $460 via Betfair.

BEST BET 🥇:

The GENESIS SCOTTISH Open
The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland.
10th July to 13th July
Tee off Day 1 @ 4pm (check times)

It will be interesting to see what version of JT appears in the early rounds.

In 2025 we have seen him record a 63 & 71 (The Sentry) & 62 & 78 (The Players) along with his Victory @ RBC Heritage with a low of 61 & 69.

JT holds & or is tied for 9 x COURSE records, Very Impressive so what we want to see here though is consistency over 4 days not that cold then hot run he is well known for.

Of the 15 x PGA events he has played in 2025 he has made 13 Cuts along with 1 x 1st, 3 x 2nds & 7 x Top 10s, he has having his usual consistent season.

Hailing from England JT has played most of his Golf around Links courses and he is a career high 4th in OWGR but I want him to really lean on his T2G x 12th & his APG x 15th & 12th in PUTT.

I think he should be what odds RORY is and vice versa. RORY is not in hot form, sure his Links stats are good but..........

***He has an incredibly high Top 10 SR with 88 x Top 10s in 255 x PGA sanctioned events for
34.5%.

He is the BEST BET for a Top 10 only play @ $5. See individual selection below.
