Event Analysis

The forecast for the PGA Baycurrent looks mixed as temperatures will range between 18-28 degrees Celsius, Sunday is the coldest day.

Winds are a feature as they will increase significantly through the event with Thursday tee off looking tough with +30 mph gusts from the north east where Friday is calm, then Saturday sees 15-20 mph gusts from the south & the final day, Sunday then sees a directional change back to the north east with gusts above 20 mph.

Possible chance of rain is 50% so I am expecting a soft, lush track, with greens speeding up throughout the week.

  • Course Type: Classical, Parkland, Mid-Score,
  • Short; Par: 71
  • Length: 7,317 yards
  • Fairways: Korai Zoysiagrass
  • Rough: Noshiba Zoysiagrass 2″

The course at Yokohama Country Club utilises a composite course layout combining holes from both the West and East Courses. Specifically, the layout includes 16 holes from the West Course and 2 holes from the East Course.

This configuration aims to offer a balanced challenge for players, integrating the West Course’s undulating fairways and dense pine trees with the East Course’s tighter, tree-lined fairways and deep bunkering. The West Course is renowned for its wide, inviting fairways, complemented by gently rolling terrain and classic Coore & Crenshaw-style bunkering.

The specialised nature of Japanese golf courses is fully highlighted here at Yokohama, where a Par 71 format features just 2 par 5s, both of within 2 holes of each other on the front 9 and the back 9 features 8 par 4s, with only 3 par 3s on this course at holes 3, 7 and the 237-yard 16th.

Winning scores here have been-

  • -14/270 (2018 Japan Open)
  • -13/271 (2023 Yokohama Minato Championship)
  • -22/262 (2024 Yokohama Minato Championship)

Players Skill suited in Japan-
